Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory Leads the Development of China's First Methodology for Carbon Inclusive Projects in Grassland Ecological Restoration

Recently, under the guidance of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, the Methodology for Carbon Inclusive Projects in Sichuan's Forestry and Grassland Sector: Grassland Ecological Restoration (SCER-LY-003-V01) was officially released. Focusing on China's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, this methodology closely aligns with the actual conditions of Sichuan Province, while highlighting the strengths and potential of its forestry and grassland ecological resources. Led by Researcher Tang Xiaolu and Professor Pei Xiangjun from the Research Institute for Carbon Sequestration and Ecological Restoration at Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, the methodology was jointly developed in collaboration with Chengdu University of Technology, Sichuan Institute of Geological Survey, and Sichuan Institute of Nuclear Geological Survey. It represents China's first carbon inclusion accounting methodology specifically tailored to the field of grassland ecological restoration. 

Through a systematic analysis of grassland carbon cycling patterns in Sichuan and by integrating high-precision monitoring data, the Research Institute for Carbon Sequestration and Ecological Restoration at Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory developed a scientifically sound carbon reduction accounting system that aligns with the ecological characteristics of Sichuan's grasslands. This ensures the rigor and operability of the methodology. It not only fills a gap of carbon inclusion methodologies for grassland ecological restoration in China but also serves as a precise benchmark for grassland carbon sink trading. It lays a strong foundation for the development and utilization of grassland carbon sink resources, encouraging broader societal participation in grassland ecological restoration efforts. By deepening research in forestry and grassland carbon inclusion and related fields, it will boost the carbon sequestration capacity of grassland ecosystems and further strengthen the "carbon reservoir" component of the "Tianfu Forest Four Reservoirs" initiative - advancing Sichuan's steady progress toward carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
