The Academic Committee of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory Successfully Holds Its 2024 Annual Meeting

On November 30, 2024, the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Academic Committee of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as "the Laboratory") was successfully held in Chengdu. The meeting was held in a hybrid format of both online and offline sessions, and moderated by He Kebin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory. Academician Shi Bi, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee, Academician Zhang Yuanhang, Academician Jiang Yi, Academician Duo Ji, Academician Wang Hualin and other experts were present. 

At the meeting, Academician He Kebin, on behalf of the Academic Committee, extended warm welcome to the attending academicians and experts, and expressed sincere gratitude for the support, concern, and guidance provided by the members for the Laboratory's construction and development. He acknowledged that the Laboratory had achieved significant progress in its first three years of operation, and emphasized that the Academic Committee would continue to give the Laboratory's construction and development their full backing.

The meeting reviewed the Laboratory's development progress in 2024, the work of the Academic Committee, and the status of key strategic advisory projects. The Laboratory's landmark achievements for the next three years, and the optimization and adjustments for research departments and centers were also consulted and discussed during the meeting. 

After reviewing the reports, members of the Academic Committee fully affirmed the Laboratory's achievements and unanimously agreed that the Laboratory has ushered in a new stage of development. The focus of research tasks should align with Chinese strategic needs and the development of Sichuan Province, yielding results in competitive research projects, innovation platform construction, talent aggregation, and technological achievements. The members also actively offered valuable, constructive and forward-looking suggestions regarding the Laboratory's expected landmark achievements, the implementation of strategic advisory projects, among others. 

Academician Zhang Yuanhang noted that there is still much progress to be made, particularly in terms of its development orientation and institutional mechanisms for the Laboratory, in spite of the current achievements. He encouraged the Academic Committee to provide more constructive suggestions for the Laboratory's future development particularly in the aspects of international participation, striving for domestic leading, showcasing Sichuan characteristics and serving local industries.

Academician He Kebin stressed that the Laboratory should proactively communicate with relevant science & technology decision-making and advisory management departments to know their expectations, obtain first-hand carbon neutrality policies, and thereby accelerate the research project layout in the reduction of pollution and carbon emissions, carbon markets, and carbon footprints. With efforts, it is expected to produce a series of international-frontier, domestic leading and Sichuan-featured landmark achievements to support the green and low-carbon industrial transformation in Sichuan Province, contributing to the achievement of "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goals. 

Co-Executive Director of the Laboratory, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation, and former President of Southwest Petroleum University Zhao Jinzhou, Deputy Director of the Laboratory and Vice President of Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University Liu Wanhua and Director of the Sichuan Tianfu New Area Bureau of Ecological Environment and Urban Management and Secretary-General of the Laboratory Council Fan Tao, other academicians, experts and relevant responsible persons were also present.
