Professor Pu Wanfen's Team from the Research Center for Green Development and Utilization of Natural Gas Participates in the TatOilExpo

From August 26 to 28, 2024, the TatOilExpo, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan and KazanExpo, was held at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Center in Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan attended the forum and delivered the opening speech. The event brought together representatives from 210 oil, petrochemical, and equipment companies, as well as research institutions from 29 countries and regions, with over 8,000 attendees from government, academia, and industry. 

As the only research institution delegate from China, Professor Pu Wanfen’s team from the Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory's Research Center for Green Development and Utilization of Natural Gas attended upon invitation. The research team showcased their innovative technologies, products, and equipment in areas such as in-situ hydrogen production and efficient clean development of oil and gas reservoirs and enhanced recovery through nanochemistry, drawing significant attention from attendees.

During the event, President Minnikhanov engaged in friendly discussions with Professor Pu and her team. Russian state media conducted an exclusive interview with Professor Pu, during which she briefly introduced the laboratory and the history and achievements of its collaboration with Kazan Federal University. Throughout the expo, Lenar Safin, President of Kazan Federal University, met with Professor Pu and presented her with a commemorative medal. Professor Pu, along with Danis Nurgaliev, Vice President of Kazan Federal University and Mikhail Varfolomeev, Head of Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, reached important consensuses on further international cooperation and field applications in areas such as in-situ hydrogen production via air injection in oil and gas reservoirs for enhanced oil recovery and chemical flooding. During the expo, Tatneft, the largest oil and gas company in the Republic of Tatarstan, along with Kazan Federal University, invited the team to sign a strategic agreement and discuss related cooperation projects in Kazan in September.

The participation of the team from the Research Center for Green Development and Utilization of Natural Gas in the expo highlights the international recognition of the laboratory's research outcomes in relevant fields. This engagement is significant for developing new quality productive forces in the oil and gas sector, promoting carbon neutrality initiatives, and enhancing regional sharing of green, low-carbon technologies in oil and gas development among countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
