On July 24, 2023, Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as “the Laboratory”) held a demonstration meeting on the construction scheme of the Research Department of Integrated Coupling under Carbon Neutrality and the Research Center for Zero-carbon Transportation through an ‘offline + online’ method. Yan Jinyue, an academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, served as the leader of the expert panel. Zhang Yuanhang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Li Keqiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Chen Weirong, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering; Tang Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shudao Investment Group Co., Ltd.; Cui Xuezhong, former Deputy President of China Academy of Transportation Sciences; Xie Yi, Chief Engineer of China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co., Ltd.; Mao Hongjun, a professor of Nankai University; Yuan Changwei, Dean of the School of Transportation Engineering of Chang’an University; and Chen Zuoqiang, Deputy Chief Engineer of Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group Co., Ltd., attended the demonstration meeting as members of the expert panel.
The opening ceremony of the demonstration meeting was presided over by He Kebin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory, and Chief Head of the Research Department of Integrated Coupling under Carbon Neutrality. The scheme demonstration was presided over by Academician Yan Jinyue, Leader of the expert panel. At the beginning of the meeting, Academician He Kebin introduced the Laboratory’s progress work to the attending experts and expressed his sincere gratitude to the leaders, academicians, and experts who have shown care, support, and assistance in the construction of the Laboratory.
During this session, Lv Lanchun, Assistant to Director of Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University, reported on the construction scheme of the Research Department of Integrated Coupling under Carbon Neutrality. He mentioned that the Research Department of Integrated Coupling under Carbon Neutrality aimed at key areas of green and low-carbon industries, took the low-carbon transformation in transportation, construction, and industry as the main research direction, effectively integrated resources from various research departments in the Laboratory, and promoted systematic solutions for industry application scenarios. These efforts could provide innovative source power for the development of green and low-carbon industries.
Subsequently, Wu Jianping, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering and Director of the Tsinghua University-University of Cambridge-Massachusetts Institute of Technology “Future Transport” Research Centre, reported on the construction scheme of the Research Center for Zero-carbon Transportation. Academician Wu Jianping stated that the Research Center for Zero-carbon Transportation centered around the major needs of low-carbon transformation and development in the transportation industry. The center was dedicated to achieving scientific breakthroughs and industrialization work in areas such as transportation energy and carbon emission data perception system, transportation carbon emission big data and artificial intelligence simulation analysis technology, and key technologies for low-carbon transformation application in transportation system. This Research Center would be built into a solution provider for major scientific research needs in the field of low-carbon transformation in transportation, a provider of platform-based transportation carbon data services, as well as a promoter for the transformation of low-carbon transportation scientific and technological achievements.
After thorough inquiry and discussion, the expert panel believed that the Research Center for Zero-carbon Transportation was positioned to ‘lead innovation, drive industry, be based in Sichuan, and radiate across the country’. It focused on fields including energy and carbon emission data collection and perception in the transportation industry, digital twin platforms in the transportation system, and key technologies for low-carbon transformation in transportation system. Leveraging advantageous resources from Tsinghua University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Shudao Group, Sichuan Port and Shipping Investment Group, Institute of Transportation Development Strategy & Planning of Sichuan Province, and China Railway Eryuan, the center is constructing an innovative ecological chain throughout the entire process of theoretical exploration, technological research and development, and promotion and application, with a strong construction foundation, practical and feasible goals, and a reasonable technical route. The expert panel all agreed to approve the demonstration of the construction scheme of the Research Center for Zero-carbon Transportation.
Liu Wanhua, Deputy Director of the Laboratory; Huang Deqing, a professor of Southwest Jiaotong University; Chen Bin, Director of the Institute of Transportation Development Strategy & Planning of Sichuan Province; and Liu Yugang, Chief Expert of the Institute of Transportation Development Strategy & Planning of Sichuan Province, as well as relevant responsible persons and technical backbone of the Research Center’s co-built and cooperation units, attended the meeting.
