The Construction Scheme of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory’s Research Center for Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research CenterIs Demonstrated by Experts

On July 20, 2023, Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as “the Laboratory”) organized a demonstration meeting on the construction scheme of the Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research center of the Research Department of Resource Carbon Neutrality. The demonstration expert panel consisted of 11 experts, including academicians Zhang Yuanhang, Fan Guobin, Deng Longjiang, and Xu Weilin from the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Dai Xiaohu, a professor of Tongji University; Cheng Xueqing, former Deputy President of Southwest Research and Design Institute of the Chemical Industry; Tang Anbin, Chairman of Sichuan EM Technology Co., Ltd.; Zhou Zuowan, a professor of Southwest Jiaotong University; Li Zhijie, Chief Engineer of Shanghai Yingke Industry Co., Ltd.; Chen Minjian, Director of China Bluestar Chengrand Co., Ltd.; and Ye Rui, Chief Engineer of Chengdu Yulong Chemical Co., Ltd.

This demonstration meeting was held through an ‘offline + online’ method. The opening ceremony was presided over by Shi Bi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory, and Chief Head of the Research Department of Resource Carbon Neutrality. The scheme demonstration was presided over by Zhang Yuanhang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the Laboratory, and Leader of the expert panel.

At the meeting, Academician Shi Bi first made a brief introduction to the background of the demonstration meeting and the attending experts. He pointed out that the Laboratory was oriented towards the national “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” goals, scientifically arranged six major research fields, and has completed the formation of 11 research centers. These achievements attained thus far owe much to the unwavering attention from leaders at all levels and the strong support of academicians and experts. Today, Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research Center launched the demonstration, hoping that academicians and experts could provide support and guidance for the construction and development of the Research Center.

Wang Qi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor of Sichuan University, reported to the expert panel on the construction scheme of the Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research Center. She provided a detailed report on the Research Center’s construction background and target positioning, research tasks and characteristic advantages, as well as operational management mechanisms.

Academician Wang Qi pointed out that the waste polymer materials currently were increasing rapidly, which led to serious ecological and environmental problems and waste of resources due to non-standardized disposal and lack of effective recycling technology. Aiming at the national “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” goals and the industrial demand for developing a green, low-carbon, and circular economy, and relying on the research foundation of Sichuan University, the Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research Center focused on the key engineering technological breakthroughs. These include high-value and efficient recycling of waste plastics, green and low-carbon manufacturing of environmentally friendly PVA packaging products, and high-value utilization of biomass solid with negative carbon property cellulose, ultimately aiming for industrial application and promotion. Furthermore, these efforts could spur the high-quality development of the circular economy, provide a world-leading Chinese solution for global plastic pollution treatment, and help achieve China’s “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” goals.

After listening to the report, the expert panel conducted in-depth discussions regarding the feasibility of the construction scheme of the Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research Center. After thorough questioning and discussion, the demonstration expert panel believed that the Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research Center closely focused on the international technological forefront of green and low-carbon recycling of polymer materials and recycling of waste plastics. It also deeply carried out the theoretical research, technological innovation, talent cultivation, and industrial transformation of environmentally friendly polymer materials and recycling, which was highly in line with the national demand for the major carbon peaking and carbon neutrality strategy. The expert panel unanimously approved the construction scheme of the Polymer Green Low Carbon processing and Resource Utilization Research Center.

Relevant responsible officials from the Ecological Environment and Urban Management Bureau of Sichuan Tianfu New Area, Liu Wanhua, Deputy Director of the Laboratory, Jiang Xia, Secretary General of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory, and relevant personnel from the Research Center’s co-construction and cooperation units attended the meeting.
