An Academic Exchange Conference on "New R&D Institution Strengthening Core Technology Breakthroughs and Achievement Transformation Capability" Wraps up at Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory

In order to propel the high-quality implementation of the "Research on Paths to Strengthen Core Technology Breakthroughs and Achievement Transformation Capability in Tianfu Laboratories", an academic exchange conference on "New R&D Institution Strengthening Core Technology Breakthroughs and Achievement Transformation Capability" was held by Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as the "Laboratory") in Chengdu on May 14. It was under the guideline of Sichuan Academy for Development Strategy of Engineering & Technology, attended by representatives from new R&D institutes, universities, research institutes, and enterprises, including the Institute of Environment Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center, Jinfeng Laboratory, Gusu Lab, Hubei Three Gorges Laboratory, Jiangmen Laboratory of Carbon Science and Technology, Peking University, and the Western China Transformation Center for Advanced Technological Achievements. LUO Bin, Director of the Sichuan Academy of Environmental Policy and Planning and Director of the Laboratory's Research Center for Pollution and Carbon Reduction Evaluation. 

LUO Bin opened the conference with a detailed introduction to the strategic project "Research on Paths to Strengthen Core Technology Breakthroughs and Achievement Transformation Capability in Tianfu Laboratories", including the research background, objectives, content, and expected outcomes. Subsequently, representatives of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, Tianfu Xinglong Lake Laboratory, Tianfu Jincheng Laboratory, and Tianfu Jiangxi Laboratory respectively presented their construction process, technological breakthroughs and achievement transformation outcomes. 

After presentations from all Tianfu Laboratories, representatives from competent departments made their statements. MO Juan, from the Ecological Environment and Urban Management Bureau of Sichuan Tianfu New Area, pointed out the importance of taking this strategic project as an opportunity to identify the commonalities and differentiating factors in the construction of the four Tianfu laboratories, and to propose feasible pathways for technical breakthroughs and achievement transformation. According to SHAO Mingfeng, the Deputy Director of Tianfu Laboratories, laboratories should operate in a market-oriented manner, win over strong support from competent departments to better advance all aspects of its development, and ultimately propel high-quality economic growth in the region. 

During the event, the Institute of Environment Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center, Jinfeng Laboratory, Gusu Lab, Hubei Three Gorges Laboratory, and Jiangmen Laboratory of Carbon Science and Technology shared their experience in the development of new R&D institutes, focusing on aspects such as construction models, research layout, platform development, team recruitment, and incentive mechanisms. 

During the open discussion session, the attendees engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on common issues faced by new R&D institutes, such as technological breakthrough pathways, achievement transformation mechanisms, talent development, and innovative initiatives. 

WANG Qiongyao, Director of the Strategic Research Department of the Sichuan Academy for Development Strategy of Engineering & Technology, concluded the event by putting forward two hopes. Firstly, by benchmarking the experience of advanced laboratories in other regions, Tianfu Laboratories strive for improving their technological innovation capability. Secondly, by summarizing relevant achievements and experience from exchange meetings, Tianfu Laboratories could formulate advisory suggestions for the perusal and decision-making of the provincial party committee and government, thereby turning such into policies and concrete measures to effectively advance the high-standard construction of Tianfu Laboratories.
