Zhou Shouwei, an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Visits Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory to Provide Guidance on Work

On the afternoon of November 21, Zhou Shouwei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, visited Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as “the Laboratory”) to provide guidance on work. Zhao Jinzhou, Co-Executive Director of the Laboratory, Director of the Research Center for Green Development and Utilization of Natural Gas, former President of Southwest Petroleum University, and Liu Qingyou, Head of the Research Department of Carbon Sink and Geological Carbon Sequestration of the Laboratory, Director of the Research Center for Geothermal Resource Exploration, Development, and Comprehensive Utilization, and Secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu University of Technology, and Liu Wanhua, Deputy Director of the Laboratory, warmly welcomed him. Relevant personnel including Chen Yongcan, former Secretary of the Party Committee of Southwest Petroleum University, Director of the Research Center for Smart Energy of Hydro-Wind-Solar Energy Storage of the Laboratory; Guo Jianchun, President of Southwest Petroleum University; Xu Qiang, President of Chengdu University of Technology; Hou Mingcai, Vice President of Chengdu University of Technology; and Li Qingping, Director of the Research Center for Hydrate and Marine Resources Strategy of China National Offshore Oil Research Institute, attended the meeting.

At the symposium, Deputy Director Liu Wanhua on behalf of the Laboratory, extended a sincere welcome to Academician Zhou Shouwei, and introduced the Laboratory in detail from two aspects of basic situation and work progress. She pointed out that since the establishment of the Laboratory, the rules and regulations have gradually improved, the talent team has continued to grow, scientific and technological innovation has been carried out in an orderly manner, the achievement conversion has started steadily, and the condition guarantees have been continuously perfected, all of which have laid a foundation for the rapid development of the Laboratory.

Following that, Director Zhao Jinzhou provided Academician Zhou Shouwei with insights into the primary research tasks and characteristic technologies of the Research Center for Green Development and Utilization of Natural Gas. Director Liu Qingyou presented an overview of the construction background, key research tasks, and work progress of the Research Center for Geothermal Resource Exploration, Development, and Comprehensive Utilization. 

In addition, attendees engaged in profound exchanges on topics such as joint construction of the Laboratory, institutional mechanisms of new research and development institutions, talent attraction, and distribution of scientific and technological cooperation achievements. President Guo Jianchun stated that as a co-built unit of the Laboratory, Southwest Petroleum University would continue to integrate its resources, fully leverage its disciplinary strengths, and play an active role in the construction of the Laboratory and the achievement of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. According to President Xu Qiang, Chengdu University of Technology would work with universities and enterprises with an open attitude to promote the seamless integration of ‘government, industry, academia, research, and application’, and contribute to the development of the Laboratory.

Having comprehensively reviewed the work progress of the Laboratory and the construction of the research center, Academician Zhou Shouwei fully affirmed the achievements of the Laboratory’s various work and put forward relevant suggestions for the development of the Laboratory.

Academician Zhou Shouwei pointed out that, the Laboratory should aim at the national laboratories, study the national laboratories, and learn advanced work experience and institutional mechanisms. Besides, the Laboratory should innovate the employment mechanism, concentrate advantageous strength nationwide, make scientific and technological breakthroughs, and create representative results. Additionally, he encouraged the Laboratory to actively undertake major national scientific research tasks, be included in the national innovation system as soon as possible, and establish itself as a significant force in national strategic science and technology.
