The First Conference of the Academic Committee of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory Is Successfully Held

On March 26, 2023, the first conference of the Academic Committee of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as “the Laboratory”) was held in Chengdu successfully. In an form of “offline + online”, academician He Kebin, Director of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory; academician Shi Bi, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee; Director Li Junfeng, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee; and committee members of the Academic Committee including academician Zhang Yuanhang, academician Xie Heping, Director Huang Jing, academician Liu Wenqing, academician Lei Xianzhang, academician Zhai Wanming, academician Li Yang, President Liu Qingyou, Professor Chen Daiwen, academician Jiang Jianchun, academician Jin Zhijun, academician Zou Caineng, and Secretary Chen Yongcan attended this conference.

This conference was presided over by He Kebin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Director of the Academic Committee of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory. On behalf of the Academic Committee, academician He Kebin extended a welcome to all attending experts, thanked them for their concerns and help in the start-up construction of the Laboratory, and invited them to make advice and suggestions for the construction and development of the Laboratory.

At the conference, Shi Bi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory, introduced the Articles of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory. Liu Wanhua, Deputy Director of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, and Deputy Director of the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, made an introduction to the candidates for the position of Secretary General of the Academic Committee. In addition, Professor Jiang Xia, Standing Deputy Director of the College of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology of Sichuan University, Head of the Research Center for Biomass Zero-carbon Fuels of the Research Department of Resource Carbon Neutrality of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, briefed the strategic development planning of the Laboratory.

Experts attending the conference held a heated discussion around this issue and successfully decided important documents including the Articles of the Academic Committee of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory and Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory Strategic Development Plan (2022-2030). Professor Jiangxia, Deputy Executive President of Sichuan University’s College of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology, and Head of the Research Center for Biomass Zero-carbon Fuels of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory’s Research Department of Resource Carbon Neutrality, was elected as the Secretary General of the Academic Committee.

Academician He Kebin gave an overall speech that since the establishment of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, it has adhered to coordinating with starting, building, exploring, and developing, gradually set up the well-prepared organization, carried out the recruitment and introduction of talent teams in an orderly manner, and promoted the demonstration and construction of the research center in batches, presenting an upward and positive developing trend. Academician He Kebin proposed four expectations for fully playing the Academic Committee’s roles: Firstly, to be a ‘think tank’ of exploring and moving ahead actively and focusing on entrepreneurship and development; secondly, to be a ‘leading goose’ of innovating and practicing valiantly and serving transformation and upgrading; thirdly, to be an ‘excellent university’ of establishing team systems and highlighting industrial features; fourthly, to be a ‘purifier’ of strengthening academic governance and optimizing innovative environment.

Attending experts all agreed that it was a significant strategic deployment made by the Central Committee of CPC to advance the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals realized. As a carbon neutrality laboratory jointly established by Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and the People’s Government of Sichuan Province, the Laboratory should pay attention to practical needs, innovation orientation, industrial transformation, and regional characteristics to create a highland gathering talents, a pioneer in scientific and technological innovation, and an engine of industrial development, making outstanding contributions in a brand-new journey of driving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality policy, serving the real economy, and propelling scientific and technological innovation.

Zhao Jinzhou, a Co-Executive Director of the Laboratory, and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation, and Liu Wanhua, Deputy Director of Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, and Deputy Director of the Tsinghua Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute, attended this conference. Experts attending this conference also included relevant heads of the research centers of the Laboratory.
