Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory Held the 2023 Annual Workshop on the Work of Its Research Centers

On January 20, Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as “the Laboratory”) successfully held the annual workshop on the work of its research centers. This workshop was moderated by ZHANG Yuanhang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Laboratory, with HE Kebin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory, ZHAO Jinzhou, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Exploitation and Co-Executive Director of the Laboratory, and LIU Wanhua, Deputy Director of Sichuan Energy Internet Research Institute of Tsinghua University and Deputy Director of the Laboratory present.

Relevant heads of research centers and functional departments attending the meeting include: WANG Qi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Research Center for Polymer Materials Green Low-carbon Processing and Resource Utilization, LIU Qingyou, Secretary of the Party Committee of Chengdu University of Technology and Head of the Research Department of Carbon Sink and Geological Carbon Sequestration, LEI Xianzhang, an academician of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering and Head of the Research Department of Clean and Low-carbon Energy, WU Jianping, Director of the Tsinghua University - University of Cambridge - Massachusetts Institute of Technology “Future Transportation” Research Centre and Director of the Research Center for Zero-carbon Transportation, PEI Xiangjun, a foreign academician of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and Director of the Research Center for Carbon Sequestration and Ecological Restoration, LIANG Bin, a professor of Sichuan University and Director of the Research Center for Carbon Dioxide Resource Utilization, LUO Bin, President of Sichuan Academy of Environmental Policy and Planning and Director of the Research Center for Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction Evaluation, JIANG Xia, a professor of Sichuan University and Director of the Research Center for Biomass Zero-carbon Fuels, and ZHOU Ying, Vice President of Southwest Petroleum University and Deputy Director of the Research Center for Hydro-Wind-Solar-Storage Intelligent Energy System.

At this meeting, LIU Wanhua, Deputy Director of the Laboratory presented an overview of the Laboratory’s general work performance in 2023, covering six key areas: organizational construction, team building, scientific and technological innovation, achievement transformation, cooperation and exchange, and support and guarantee. She highlighted that in 2024, the Laboratory will focus on cultivating high-level talents, advancing high-quality scientific and technological innovation, achieving the transformation of high-value scientific and technological achievements, and conducting international cooperation and exchange. These endeavors geared towards ensuring the completion of multiple work tasks and objectives with utmost quality and adherence to high standards.

Subsequently, work reports were delivered by 13 research centers of the Laboratory separately, including the Research Center for Zero-carbon Energy Systems, the Research Center for Green Development and Utilization of Natural Gas, the Research Center for New Power Systems, the Research Center for Hydro-Wind-Solar-Storage Intelligent Energy System, the Research Center for Biomass Materials, the Research Center for Biomass Zero-carbon Fuels, the Research Center for Polymer Materials Green Low-carbon Processing and Resource Utilization, the Research Center for New Principles and Technologies of Carbon Dioxide Capture, the Research Center for Carbon Dioxide Resource Utilization, the Research Center for Geothermal Resource Exploration, Development, and Comprehensive Utilization, the Research Center for Carbon Sequestration and Ecological Restoration, the Research Center for Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction Evaluation, and the Research Center for Zero-carbon Transportation.

After reviewing the reports made by these research centers, Academician HE Kebin remarked that the Laboratory holds a solid construction foundation and a clear trajectory for development. Looking ahead, the Laboratory will keep pace with both domestic and overseas latest trends of carbon neutrality. With its development direction of “gaining a firm foothold in the market as China’s national team”, the Laboratory will bolster its innate driving force and enhance its earning power by scientific and technological achievements.

Lastly, in his concluding remarks, Academician ZHANG Yuanhang emphasized the distinctive accomplishments made by the Laboratory over the past year in diverse aspects, such as organizational construction, talent introduction and cultivation, and center building. In the next step, research centers should aim at developing the Laboratory into an “international frontier and domestic leading player, with Sichuan characteristics in the low-carbon industry”. Oriented toward cultivating major achievements, research centers should play a significant role in improving Sichuan’s ecological quality, and generate symbolic results in technological transformation and application demonstration. With these endeavors, the Laboratory therefore showcases its academic, scientific, and technological influences on carbon neutrality at home and abroad.
