Chengdu Economic Daily (by journalist Zhang Jiahua): At 9:40 am, December 23, 2021, leaders from provincial and municipal authorities and academicians gathered in Tianfu Haichuang Park of Sichuan Tianfu New Area to unveil the Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory together by pushing a rod in front of them. As the curtain rose, the gold-color nameplate of the Laboratory gave rise to a round of applause.
This morning marked the official opening of the Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory. Attending leaders included Shi Xiaolin, a member of the standing committee of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and CPC Secretary of Chengdu, Bao Hui, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, and Wang Fengchao, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and Mayor of Chengdu City; participating academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering included Zhang Yuanhang, He Kebin, Li Yanrong, Xu Weilin, Shi Bi, and so on. The ceremony was presided over by Xie Ruiwu, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee.
The building of a Tianfu Laboratory system is to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on scientific and technological innovation and core support for Sichuan to lead in innovation-driven development. It will gather high-end innovation-based factors in a wider range and make up for shortcomings in innovation, so as to elevate Sichuan's strategic position in new forms of national innovation and bolster the high-quality development of the local economy. Ultimately, this will properly align with national strategies and give rise to a sci-tech innovation center with nationwide influence.
Tianfu Yongxing Laboratory, as a part of Tianfu Laboratory planning, is built with a principle of province-city partnership and multiple sides' coordination. It focuses on three research directions, namely zero-carbon energy, resource carbon neutrality, and geothermal energy and carbon sink. It has arranged eight frontier research centers for such areas as zero-carbon energy systems, high polymer low-carbon circular development, and geothermal resource development, and empowered three major industrial fields of clean energy, environmental protection equipment, and green building materials. The aim is to build a leading scientific and research platform, an industrial commercialization center, and a highland for talent cultivation in carbon neutrality, thus systematically improving the capability of green and low-carbon innovation. Also, it will gather new momentum and create advantages for green and low-carbon development in Sichuan Province and Chengdu City, in an effort to serve the achievements of China's dual carbon goals.
